When Vapor Cloud was announced, I was probably one of the most pestering early users to ask for a free DB tier. Although the server came with a free hosting, there was no such option for hosting a DB. Being able to test your application in a staging, production-like environment is fundamental to web applications development. Being able also to verify the connection to an actual DB and use persistent data also is. Finally, for many independent developers and small shops, a staging or small production environment is the only kind of service you ever need.
Free tiers have been one of Heroku's main selling point for years. Now, we finally have access to an entirely free Vapor Cloud setup to host our Vapor apps!
A few Pull Requests have been opened on the OpenWhisk repository to support Swift 4, the
Codable protocol, any many improvements based on the two. As you would expect, these changes come from the Swift@IBM team, who are working tirelessly to improve support for Serverless Swift on Bluemix!
