Apple has just released an open source database! Its aim is to "give you the power of ACID transactions in a distributed database". FoundationDB is available for macOS, Windows and Linux, and its source code is available on Github.
Is Apple coming up with a cloud product? Swift, the release of FoundationDB and SwiftNIO, the acquisition of a start up in the CI business, the company saying it's no longer a computer company but a services company… 🤔It all makes me think Apple is going to introduce an AWS-like cloud computing product. That would be HUGE! I'm starting to hope for big news at the next WWDC.
The team behind Vapor went on a release sprint in the last few days publishing new Swift packages and new versions of existing ones, mostly components of Vapor 3. It's valuable to reflect on how they architected the framework and its components to be so independent from each other. That's good architecture right there! Nicely done!
